Murfreesboro City Cable TV Produces Bicentennial Documentary

City Cable TV has produced a documentary about Murfreesboro's bicentennial. Accompanying the series of video roundtable discussions among those whose roots go back to the city’s beginnings, is a show that documents the city’s rich history in civics, commerce and education.

Titled 200: The Story of Murfreesboro and produced by CityTV video journalist Michael Nevills, the documentary explores many of the moments that have made the city what it is today.

The documentary is being cablecast at various times throughout the day. To find it, consult the CityTV schedule by selecting Check from the city’s website homepage, www.murfreesborotn.gov and then clicking on the CityTV Schedule or by selecting Find on the navigation bar and clicking Featured Programming from the options presented. From the same set of options, you can select the Archived Videos … tab then look for the Other Videos tab.

The documentary can also be found by scrolling to the bottom of the website’s homepage.

“The documentary revisitsMurfreesboro’s  origins, its role as a state capital in the 1800’s and its struggles during the Civil War,”  Nevills said. “The program also looks at defining elements that have madeMurfreesboroa success.

“Through historians civic and business leaders and pioneers,” he continued, 200: The Story of Murfreesboro tells  the tale of a city that has played a vital role in the State ofTennessee and has developed a reputation nationally as one of the best places to live.”

Those interviewed for this documentary included former State Representative John Hood, Rutherford County Historical Society President Greg Tucker, Rutherford County Archivist John Lodl, Murfreesboro City Schools Director Linda Gilbert, former teacher, school board member and Murfreesboro City Council person Mary Scales; Mayor Tommy Bragg, Vice-Mayor Chris Bratcher, City Manager Rob Lyons and Stones River National Battlefield Park Ranger Jim Lewis.

The show will run through October.
