Withdrawing large sums of money from your personal checking account is perfectly legal and people do it daily throughout Rutherford County. But, if a check has failed to clear and you are trying to withdraw after you deposit the check in question, the bank will not allow the withdraw to take place. In other words, the bank has to make sure the funds are available.
A La Vergne man got quite upset while at a bank in Murfreesboro when he was told that a large check he deposited had not yet cleared. The 46-year-old man was trying to withdraw money that was deposited the day prior. However, Sun Trust Bank staff told the customer that the check had not yet cleared.
Police were called when the man started to cause a scene. According to bank employees at the Old Fort Parkway branch, the man started cussing and yelling. The staff told officers the man threatened, "To drive his truck into the bank."
The reason for the alleged threat was because the check was still processing and had not yet cleared.
No arrest was made because when police showed up, the subject had already fled the scene. Needless to say, police have the man's complete identity and address.
