The first Boro Yoga Fest was held this past Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Lane Agri Park. Over eighty people participated in the all-day yoga at 316 John R. Rice Boulevard.
One of the teachers, Jami Jackson, led vinyasa at Boro Yoga Fest and told a couple of stories of her experience as a volunteer. Boro Yoga Fest held a softcover yoga book drive with cooperation from Golds Gym and dozens of yoga books were donated for the Rutherford County jail.
The proceeds from the event benefited the Prison Yoga Project, a great resource for the yoga program at Rutherford County Corrections..
Prison Yoga Project is a charitable organization that trains yoga teachers to teach in prison, jails, and other rehabilitation facilities. Prison Yoga Project was founded by James Fox, who began teaching yoga at San Quentin Prison in 2002. Fox's book Yoga for Healing and Recovery has been sent to over 16,000 prisoners free of charge and Prison Yoga Project has trained over 1,500 teachers.
