Riverdale Lady Warriors to be Honored

Riverdale High School will be presented with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy as part of the 12th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, which is in its 10th year honoring girls' basketball. Riverdale finished No. 1 in the final Xcellent 25 rankings of MaxPreps sportswriters and is one of 20 schools being honored on this season's tour. The presentation will be made at a pep rally.

Riverdale capped a perfect 34-0 season when it defeated Memphis Central, 66-59, on Feb. 4 to capture its second straight Tennessee AAA state championship. It was the Warriors sixth state title since the 2006-07 season. Riverdale is one of 20 schools being honored on the 12th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, which is in its 10th year honoring girls' basketball. MaxPreps ranks nearly 40,000 varsity high school basketball teams. The school's 2012-13 team was also voted No. 1 by the MaxPreps writers when it finished 35-0 and also won the state championship.
The MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the National Guard recognizes the finest high school basketball teams in the country through various celebrations and formal ceremonies. The Tour was inaugurated in 2005 and honored 10 premier football programs. Presently, the Football Tour honors 50 of the top scholastic teams in America. In 2006, boys' basketball was added. Girls' basketball became a part of the award program the following year. Girls' volleyball joined the mix in 2010 and in 2011 girls' soccer joined the program. Boys' soccer was added in 2012. Representatives from the Army National Guard will present each team with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy in recognition of their outstanding achievements throughout the 2016-17 season.
