If you are an experienced farmer, gardener, a window box planter, or an admirer of your neighbor's annual vegetable haul, perhaps you can try something new this year: Plant a Row for the Hungry in Rutherford County.
The Rutherford County Emergency Food Bank is coordinating the donation of fresh veggies and fruit by gardeners and farmers. Kimberly Honeycutt, Executive Director for the Rutherford County Food Bank stated,"for every pound of vegetables donated, four meals are supplemented", The food bank will distribute this fresh, healthy and nutritious veggies and fruit to the families, seniors and individuals they assist.
Honeycutt explained "we hope to have an abundance of veggies, enabling us to share with our network of partners in Rutherford County who also assist with food insecurity". This is a great opportunity to introduce your child to gardening, while cultivating the habit of giving back. "We are excited to kick off this program annual program, this program is made possible thanks to the support of GWA Foundation, Rutherford County UT Extension, Society of St. Andrews Gleaners, and MTSU Agriculture student Alexis Wells", stated Honeycutt.
