A 26-year-old man in Murfreesboro who told police he was homeless was arrested after he was caught while allegedly blocking traffic on South Church Street near the police station. The incident unfolded Saturday (4/15/17) evening around 5:00.
When Officer Jeremy Fox ordered the subject to stop, he apparently refused and started yelling profanities at the officer. The man then ran towards United Grocery Outlet on South Church at Broad Streets, according to his arrest report. Police tried to block him in with a patrol car and during that attempt, he allegedly tried to open the passenger side door of Fox's police car. He is also accused of throwing a rock at the windshield of the officers' car.
When the man refused to stop, Officer Fox said that he tazed the culprit with a tazer. Once on the ground the man was handcuffed and transported to the hospital.
Joseph Robert Hope was charged with Aggravated Assault on an Officer, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing a Highway. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 30, 2017.
