Thursday (May 4, 2017) was the National Day of Prayer and events were held throughout Rutherford County.

In La Vergne, Police Chief Mike Walker opened his request for prayer with a story about the suicide of a 36 year old mother who hung herself earlier this week. Her young children found her body. The mother leaves behind two kids, one of whom is a special needs child. Chief Walker said that police are currently working with the Department of Children Services to place the surviving children in a home, noting that continued prayers are needed for the kids.

Chief Walker then talked about how prayers are working for one of his officers who had a stroke while on the job...

After Officer Goins had a stroke during a traffic stop, he was transported to the hospital where he had a second stroke. Walker said that despite the setbacks, Officer Goins is now walking and going through rehabilitation. Chief Walker then stated a second time that prayers are not only needed, but work.
