On Saturday May 13, letter carriers in Rutherford County will "Stamp Out Hunger" by collecting canned food donations from households on their routes. Donations benefit the Rutherford County Emergency Food Bank.
To help "Stamp Out Hunger," fill the paper donation bag received in the mailbox the week of May 8th, or any plastic or paper bag, with canned food donations and place it on or by your the mailbox May 13 before the letter carrier arrives.
"The Letter Carriers' Food Drive is extremely important," said Kimberly Honeycutt, executive director of the Rutherford County Emergency Food Bank. "our growing need to prepare and provide for individuals, families, children and senior experiencing food insecurity rises as we work with local agencies uncovering hidden hunger". "We are asking the community to help us by donating canned food items and non-perishables through the Letter Carriers' Food Drive". " Your support allows us to help our community struggling with hunger."
On-going need include: Canned fruits, canned vegetables, rice, beans, peanut butter, canned protein (ham, tuna, chicken), soups, cereals, and oatmeal. The Rutherford County Emergency Food Bank is grateful to the post office carriers, together we have a goal "fill the truck trailer". You are also welcome to drop off your bag from 8 am-2 pm at the Memorial and Church Street post office. The boy scouts, postal workers, food bank crew and a trailer truck will be ready to take your donation.
