The Saturday morning crash in Shelbyville injured a Murfreesboro couple as well as killing a 4-month old Bedford County infant. Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Barry Qualls' accident report shows that 28-year old Jaclyn Byers was driving her Ford pickup truck in an easterly direction on the Shelbyville bypass, when a VW Jetta allegedly ran a stop sign on Railroad Avenue and pulled in front of the F-150. The car was driven by 26-year old Shelbyville resident Edward Petatan-Rendon. Blood tests were made and charges are pending.
As the car careened down an emankment, three children were ejected out the rear window. Infant Betzariri Petatan-Rojas died. Two year old Edgar Daniel Petatan-Rojas and four-year old Danielis Petatan-Rojas were flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Vanderbilt Medical Center.
Mrs. Byers and her 28-year old husband Bill Byers were both injured. Fortunately, the Murfreesboro couple's child, Grason Olivia Byers, was not hurt.
Trooper Qualls reports that none of the three Rojas children were properly restrained in the Volkswagen.
