Authorities responded to Saint Thomas Rutherford at about 7:00 Friday morning this past week (6/23/17) for an armed subject who was evidently outside of the facility, as reported by security at the hospital. Once on the scene police learned that the subject had been there since 4:00 Friday morning.
According to the report that was released on Monday (6/26/17), the man was outside the hospital waiting to make contact with a nurse. The man told officers that he wanted to surprise the nurse with a note.
Hospital security told officers, "The man had visited one previous time. He was a patient on two other occasions."
The police report that WGNS obtained stated, "[The Subject] apparently became fixated on [the victim] and has created an ongoing fictional relationship."
As officers looked further into the situation, it was confirmed that the man was a former patient at the hospital where he had contact with the nurse. However, the nurse told police that she did not know the man and she did not want any contact with him, as detailed in an official police report.
As for the reported gun... The subject was armed with a .45 caliber handgun. The weapon was seized by police when it was confirmed that his gun carry permit was expired. The man was also told not to come back on the property.
The suspect will appear in court on August 24, 2017, after being issued a misdemeanor citation for unlawful possession of a firearm.
Later that same day, the man allegedly called the hospital and asked for the nurse. When police spoke to him a second time, he reportedly said that he called the critical care unit looking for the victim because, "They were seeing each other and he needed to speak with her."
The victim was advised how to obtain warrants for harassment.
