The Cold Case Unit at the Rutherford County Sheriffs Office has teamed with the TBI to open a 40-year old murder case. On March 25, 1977, the body of Stanley Smith was found in an abandoned house off Van Cleve Lane, near the battlefield . . .

That was Sheriffs Detective Steve Kohler.

He explained that DNA and forensic science have changed dramatically since 1977, and he feels this murder is solvable . . .

Detective Kohler said, "Someone listening may hold the key to solving this case and not even realize it."

Cases are often solved with evidence gleaned from what was thought to be small and trivial information. He wants the public to phone him at 615-904-3046.

Stanley Smith grew-up on Richardson Avenue; that's a block-long street that connects East Vine on one side with East State Street on the other.

In addition to his son feeling deprived of having a father, Stanley Smith's mother also needs closure . . .
