The Middle Tennessee softball team spent this past Thursday night giving a helping hand at the Discovery Center’s Great Pumpkin Festival.
The family-friendly Halloween event focused on the theme of fantasy children’s literature. Kids were encouraged to dress as their favorite fantasy character.
The festival featured exhibits including Frodo’s Shire and Narnia’s Wardrobe. Children had the opportunity to cook up their own potent potion and fizzing formula, play a quidditch match and experiment with Mr. Bond the Science Guy.
“I had a great time helping out tonight,” said sophomore infielder Kayla Toney. “I enjoyed being able to work with all of the kids as they experienced all the exhibits. Honestly, it made me miss being a kid.”
Attendees were encouraged to bring canned foods to support the Rutherford County Emergency Food Bank. The night was capped with the annual costume contest.
Located in Murfreesboro, the Discovery Center is a hands-on children’s museum and nature center designed to educate and entertain kids through diverse programs and exhibits.
