Reports of feeling the earth shake around 8:30 Saturday evening have been heard from several persons in the east Murfreesboro area.

Evidently, someone threw something explosive into the fire, which caused the sound and the shake, but no one was injured. And because of the rock topography in our area, the shock was felt over a wide area.

Rutherford County Fire Chief Larry Farley told WGNS, "Firefighters responded to the area of Jakes Avenue and Flat Rock Road. We had conflicting reports from an explosion. Everything from a house blowing up, to reports of a home being fully engulfed in flames. After searching and questioning several people, nothing was found."

Scientists explain that plate tectonics connects large areas with rocks below the earth's surface. As a result, an explosion in one area is often felt in distant areas through plate tectonics.

NO Injuries:

Lisa Marchesoni with the Rutherford County Sheriffs Office commented, "No one suffered injuries when items burning in a bonfire apparently erupted, causing slight tremors. Rutherford County Sheriff's deputies responded to Jakes Avenue, where they found people gathered near a large bonfire. They checked out the bonfire, but found no injuries or signs of damage."

Again, the Rutherford County Sheriffs Office along with Rutherford County Fire & Rescue both confirm that a bonfire errupted and caused tremors Saturday night that were felt in a wide area of eastern Rutherford County. There were no injuries and no damage found.
