The La Vergne Parks and Recreation Department is seeking teams to participate in “Just for Kicks,” the 8th annual adult coed kickball tournament to be held on November 12th at Veterans Memorial Park. If you are looking for a great social network experience that takes you beyond a computer screen, kickball may be your answer. The sport creates a fun and active way to meet new people and enjoy friends in a comfortable, non-intimidating, social atmosphere.
The fee is $50 per team. There must be eight players that include at least three females and members must be at least 18 years or older. Each team will play a minimum of three games.
“We want people to come and play,” said Darrell Layne, athletic coordinator for the city. “It is real fun for real people. The play is like the elementary school game you remember – the one with the big red playground ball.”
Kickball was invented in the early 1900’s to teach students how to play baseball. The set-up and rules are very similar to a baseball game, except feet-eye coordination is a must. Hands may be used to catch and throw the balls. There are kickball leagues across the nation and while they are competitive, they also provide opportunities for neighbors to build a strong community.
To be a part of this annual tournament, team sign-ups are due no later than 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10th. They can be faxed to the Parks & Recreation Department at (615) 793-9213 or emailed to dlayne@lavergnetn.gov.
