Alzheimer's and the Memory Walk

Nov 02, 2017 at 03:32 pm by Bryan Barrett

Dimentia and Alzheimer's are diseases that strike fear.

Senior Helpers Chelsea Fancher is coordinating The Virtual Dimentia Tour at various mid-state locations, as well as talks on the disease. NewsRadio WGNS asked her if you reached a certain age, could you breathe easy feeling you slipped through without a problem . . .

(Time 11-seconds)

The Alzheimer's Memory Walk is set for Veterans Day, Saturday morning, November 11th at MTSU's Dean Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium, 1568 Greenland Drive. Their goal is to raise $300,000 that will fund research for a cure. Registration is at 8:00 that morning, with the ceremony at 8:45AM and the walk at 9:00AM.

Is there a cure for this disease or a way to slow its progression . . .

(Time: 10-seconds)

The Virtual Dimentia Tour gives the feeling of what it is like to have Alzheimer's disease. WGNS' Bart Walker went through the program and said, "It was a very strange feeling. All noises were equally loud and overlapped so it was difficult to understand complete sentences. In addition, your eyesight was blurry with very little peripheral vision. Your feet tingled and both hands had little feeling and your feet had a tingling sensation. All in all--very confusing."

He concluded, "I recommend that everyone take the Virtual Dimentia Tour. It's free, plus--it gives an understanding of what those whom you know are going through if they suffer from dimentia or Alzheimer's."

Fancher also noted that there will be a community talk about Alzheimer's and Dimentia at Murfreesboro's First Presbyterian Church at 6:00 o'clock Wednesday night, January 10, 2018. The church is at the corner of College and Spring Streets (210 N. Spring Street for GPS purposes).
