Murfreesboro Police were able to help a 55 year old homeless man prior to him passing out. The man apparently took 10 Seroquel pills and stated that he was trying to kill himself.

Seroquel is an antipsychotic medication. The prescription drug is often used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It can also be used in combination with other medications to treat major depression, according to Drugs.com.

The U.S. National Library of Medicine reports that overdoses on Seroquel have occurred before with those who are schizophrenic. In one case, a woman took 1400 mg of the drug to realize extreme drowsiness and an increased heart rate. After observation in the emergency room, she was sent home and survived. The same report showed that the drug is a positive option for those that may attempt suicide. The report stated, "In overdose it is reported to be safer than the traditional antipsychotics."

In the Murfreesboro case, Officer Chris Dinaso noticed the 55 year old man walking in a circling while stumbling. The man was spotted near the Kroger store on Middle Tennessee Boulevard. Paramedics were called and the suicidal subject was transported to Saint Thomas Rutherford to receive further help.

The man did not pass away and the officer was quick to call for help.
