“We’re really excited about having Trantel in our program,” Davis said. “He’s a very athletic point guard, can shoot well, and, like Marcos, has great character. I really believe he’s going to lead Chipola to a ton of wins this season and have a great sophomore year. (Assistant coach) Win Case did an excellent job recruiting Trantel, and we look forward to him joining our team next season.”
Although Marcos will have a year at MT under his belt once his brother arrives, Trantel isn’t concerned with comparisons, but is eager to create his own identity as a Blue Raider.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to play with my brother again, which is what really drew me to Middle Tennessee,” Knight said. “We’ve been playing together since we were four years old. I hope together we can lead the team to the NCAA tournament. I also really like the school, the coaches and the way they run the program.”
Knight, a 6-2 point guard from Dublin, Ga., took a redshirt at Chipola last season and is currently playing point for the Indians. He has helped Chipola get off to a 2-0 start with nine points, all coming on 3-pointers, and seven rebounds in two games.
Prior to his time at Chipola, Knight played a key role in Middle Georgia’s trip to the national junior college tournament. He averaged 8.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game as a freshman in 2009-10.
Knight, who was also a standout at West Laurens High School, will join the Blue Raiders for the 2012-13 season.
MT opens the season on Friday against Austin Peay. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT at Murphy Center.
