Cold nights are here, and WGNS Radio partners are again handing out new sleeping bags and tents to help homeless persons stay alive.
Six local business owners are coming together for the good of our community... to serve those who have nothing and live on the streets this winter. The goal is to collect at least 500 sleeping bags and tents. Both will be handed out to homeless in Middle Tennessee and possibly beyond, depending on how many are collected during this chilly season.
With the thought of being a Good Neighbor, many years ago a listener suggested that the radio station give out blankets to homeless as a way to help them survive freezing temps. That person's dream has continued now for more than two decades.
This is a great opportunity for church groups, neighbors, civic organizations, scout groups and other concerned citizens to donate new sleeping bags that will be given to homeless persons in this area.

Why NEW Only?
For health reasons, only NEW items are handed out to lessen the chance that any germs, bedbugs or mites are handed off to the homeless. Used sleeping bags and blankets carry with them dead skin cells, dust mites, bedbugs, oils from your body, sweat, bodily fluids and more. Since there is no way of verifying what has been properly cleaned and what has not, we will only collect NEW items. This is also a way to protect volunteers who hand items out from gathering bed bugs and the like.
