Rutherford County is receiving a special grant from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. The grant is from over $6 million approved to support community recycling in a statewide effort to reduce landfill waste. Rutherford County will have a cut of over $300,000.
"TDEC is committed to increasing the diversion and beneficial use of materials that would otherwise end up in landfills or contaminating our waters," said TDEC Commissioner Bob Martineau. "These grants will help local communities meet the ever-growing challenge of finding ways to reuse materials that would otherwise be discarded to benefit our economy and protect our environment."
In Rutherford County:
* Over $56,000 will be earmarked for recycling electronics and consultant fees.
* $100,000 will be utilized at the Rockvale Convenience Center for compactors, receiver boxes, education manuals, just to name a few items.
* $7,040 will be spent on new metering / monitoring software.
