Nov 22, 2011 at 04:04 pm by Bryan Barrett

Middle Tennessee junior guard Marcos Knight was named the Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, as announced on Tuesday by the league office. Knight was instrumental in leading the Blue Raiders to a pair of victories during the past week, averaging 16.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game during MT’s three contests.

Knight showed his versatility for the Blue Raiders, stepping up in a different area in each of MT’s three contests. The Chipola Junior College transfer started the three-game stretch with a 6-of-10 performance from the field, scoring 15 points in the Blue Raiders’ 86-66 thrashing of UCLA on Tuesday. He then hit 8-of-10 free throws en route to a 17-point performance in the 82-60 victory over UNC Greensboro on Saturday. He added his fifth-straight double-digit game and first career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds against Belmont, with nine of his points coming on a trio of 3-pointers. He also compiled 10 assists and six steals during the week.

The 6-2 guard leads the team with 15.8 points per game and ranks second with 7.2 rebounds per game. He is the first Blue Raider to earn the league's weekly honor since Desmond Yates on Jan. 25, 2010 and the fourth different Blue Raider overall to earn the award. MT has now won the SBC's Player of the Week award seven times in program history.

Knight and the Blue Raiders hit the court again Tuesday against Cumberland. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT in Murphy Center, and yes--you'll hear the action on all WGNS channels (FM 100.5, FM 101.9, AM 1450, over-the-air TV 11, worldwide at www.WGNSradio.com.
