Councilmember Bill Shacklett Encourages Council and Community to Support Non-Profit

Jul 27, 2018 at 01:51 am by Bryan Barrett

In the closing moments of this weeks Murfreesboro City Council meeting, Councilmember, Bill Shacklett encouraged Councilmembers and members of the community to get out and support Main Street Murfreesboro/Rutherford County who is holding their annual fundraiser, "Taste of Rutherford"

Shacklett recognized that Murfreesboro and Rutherford County is filled with so many good organizations but pointed out the unique role that Main Street Murfreesboro/Rutherford County fills.

The Taste of Rutherford happens this Saturday, July 28th in one of the beautiful historic homes just off The Square. The home belongs to Jonathan Harmon and is located at 746 East Main Street.

From 7 until 10, your $50 ticket will give you access to an evening of culinary offerings from local restaurants and caterers accompanied by an open bar, music, and another time to gather with and meet neighbors and new friends while supporting an organization that does so much for our community.

Maybe you've enjoyed the Main Street Saturday Market on The Square, JazzFest, Friday Night Live concert series or the Christmas Tree Lighting here in Murfreesboro? If so, those events and others are organized and hosted by Main Street Murfreesboro.

What you may not realize is that Main Street Murfreesboro/Rutherford County is a nonprofit organization, relying on public and private donations for operations and projects. Main Street receives no funding from state or federal programs.

Like WGNS, there's a connection between customers and the entrepreneurial spirit of downtown businesses, which reflect the character of our community through their unique products, services, and atmosphere. Located in historic buildings, these merchants preserve an authentic sense of place.

In fact, that's what Murfreesboro's downtown offers, an authentic sense of place unlike any other. It's unique and uniquely ours.
