Occupy Murfreesboro Racking Up Fines

Occupy Murfreesboro protestors have been cited for camping on the civic plaza nightly since December the 5th. Each citation cost $50 per camper. With court cost, those citations cost closer to $200 each. In other words, each camper is racking up a bill of about $1800. Each citation issued comes with a “must appear in court” order. The campers are now asking the city to provide them with all of the latest in city ordinances. The problem the city has with that request is that all of the city ordinances are not clearly filed in one document if the code was established after 1993. Instead, the code is in individual files dating back to 1993. Long story short, a clear systematic collection of the city code does not exist. This is raising new problems for the city of Murfreesboro. The city will have to go back to 1993 and place all of the city code into one list of rules that can more easily be examined by Occupy Murfreesboro protestors and the residents of Murfreesboro.
