The Rutherford County Sheriff's Department and Rutherford County Fire and Rescue are warning residents of a phone solicitation scam.

The sheriff's department has received complaints from citizens who complain about a phone call requesting money from fire and rescue.

Chief Larry Farley says his department is tax-based and they won't solicit or do fundraising.

He says if you receive a phone call, simply hang up. Don't donate any money to this request because it's a scam.
