Soccer is a big thing in Tennessee and a huge attraction to bring in families for Rutherford County. The City of Murfreesboro has picked up on that need and as suggested several months ago, is now planning to move forward with big soccer plans.

Significant upgrades will take place at the Siegel Soccer Park and Murfreesboro will work with the Tennessee State Soccer Association to make the upgrades a success.

Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland commented...

Previously, it was thought that the soon to be developed Blackman Park would be the home to new soccer fields and a stadium. However, that site was not deemed suitable so the city is now aiming to utilize and restructure their existing soccer park on Cherry Lane.

McFarland said the goal is to make it the best soccer facility in the country. Reports indicate future soccer tournaments would equal a booking of 22,000 hotel rooms annually.

Increased soccer facilities in that area means that the Cherry Lane extension to Interstate 840 will move forward quicker than expected. That project could be underway within as little as four years.
