(MURFREESBORO) Rutherford County Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh spread Christmas joy to kids on Saturday with a fun shopping spree at Target on the Old Fort Parkway.

"It's the best day of the year," said Kylie, as a smile spread across her young face. "It's better than Christmas."

Devin West, who shopped with Kylie, replied, "She gets to buy what she wants."

Kylie was one of 48 Rutherford County Schools' students who shopped with their School Resource Officers Saturday at Target during the annual Shop with the Sheriff event. Devin is the daughter of SRO Sgt. Bill West.

Toot's, their customers and other contributors donated enough funds to take the students shopping with SROs and their families, sheriff's employees and Sheriff's Citizens Academy Alumni Association volunteers.

Santa greeted the students at the Sheriff's Office before they boarded a school bus driven by Clarissa Grant Smith of Smith's Bus Service to Target where they ate breakfast to gear up for the shopping spree.

Many of the kids wanted to buy something for other siblings or their parents.

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office thanks everyone who offered their contributions and their time to make Christmas merry for these children.
