Deputy Mark Barnes reported Friday thieves removed about 10 pounds of copper from three air conditioning units from Cornerstone Free Will Baptist Church on New Salem Highway. The units must be replaced for a $15,000 loss.

Detective Capt. Larry Pace said thieves have stolen the copper and air conditioning units from about five churches.

“They’re hitting all over,” Pace said. “Possibly a U-Haul truck may be associated with these burglaries.”

People who have information about the suspects are asked to call Detective Randy Groce at 904-3049.

Church members may want to invest in a camera system to help deter the thieves, he said.

In another case, Deputy Gene Thorpe reported thieves stole a 16-foot boat trailer owned by Bill Leach ofSunland Court when the property was stored since the spring at Fate Sanders Marina.

Several boat trailers have been stolen from the area. People who have information on the thefts may call Detective Ralph Mayercik at 904-3044.
