Almost 100 senior citizens living in rural areas of Rutherford County are checked on by volunteers from the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office monthly and sometimes weekly. The program known as SCAN focuses on seniors who are housebound.

SCAN stands for Senior Citizens Awareness Network. Sheriff's Sgt. Jimmy Cassidy stated...

As a representative of the Rutherford County Sheriffs Office, volunteers wear uniforms, travel in pairs, and use official Sheriffs vehicles. The volunteers go to an assigned list of seniors to check on their health and welfare to make sure that immediate needs are met with help and more.
