The historic downtown Murfreesboro business district lost one of its leaders and supporters Thursday (3/7/2019) morning, Marion Bean passed away at his home.
He and his wife Doris, had Mid-South Sewing Center and Aultman's Jewelers on the east side of the square for several years. They still own the real estate in which those businesses occupied and it is now the home of Trendy Pieces, Bella's Boutique and The Marketplace.
Seven years ago, the Beans on WGNS sharing memories of the growth of the downtown district. Marion chuckled, "I was a salesclerk and bookkeeper on the square back in 1949, and never dreamed that one day I would own businesses and buildings in this wonderful city--dreams do come true!"
Marion and Doris Bean not only loved the Murfreesboro square, but they loved its history too. Doris proudly took customers on tours of his sewing machine shop that was located in one of the oldest downtown structures. Bean was a gifted storyteller, and you could almost see State Legislator David Crockett walking in the space when Murfreesboro was Tennessee's state capital from 1818 to 1826.
Marion and his wife Doris were role models for many, in business and in life--the couple celebrated 67-years of marriage and spent their later years traveling.

Visitation will be 4:00PM to 8:00PM Sunday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Monday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, 1488 Lascassas Pike. Burial in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
