NAACP Honors Local Residents

The local NAACP has announced the recipients of its two prestigious honors.

Jerry Anderson Hero Award
 
The Jerry Anderson Hero Award winners are Jeremy Morris and Travis Bryant, both with Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue. Last December 3rd, Bryant and Morris were at an early morning blaze on Baird Lane. Both firefighters carried a victim from the inferno and saved her life.
 
Humanitarian Award
 
Two husband and wife teams are being honored with the NAACP Humanitarian Award. Aaron and Kathryn McCroskey and Rev. Robert and Minster Carmen Verge.
 
The McCroskey's were instrumental in the upgrading of Halls Hill Pike and making the Shiloh community safer for pedestrians. They are also being recognized for their work at Boulevard Nursing home.
 
Reverend Robert and Carmen Verge are community volunteers and have been mentors for the Riverdale Track and field program.They played a major role in forming the first Bring "Em" Out pep rally for the Rfutherford County Schools.

These awards will be presented at the Annual Martin Luther King, Breakfast in the Tennessee Room at MTSU. It will begin at 9:00 o'clock this coming Saturday morning, January 14th. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for youth. To secure tickets, contact Florence Smith at 615-439-7601.
