A 19-year old in the Barfield community called the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday morning after being burned by a meth lab explosion. The female evidently came in contact with some of the ingredients to meth when an explosion occured in a home on Blackman Road during the meth manufacturing process. After being burned, the woman drove to a nearby market. When deputies and paramedics arrived at the Barfield area market to meet with the woman she at first refused to disclose where the mishap occurred. She eventually told deputies the meth lab was in a home near the Crescent Market. Detectives were called to the home to investigate.

Minor injuries were suffered by a Lebanon woman burned during an illegal methamphetamine production Thursday at 3423 Blackman Road, a Rutherford County Sheriff?s supervisor said.

Sarah Jean Loftis, 19, suffered the injury, then drove to Barfield-Crescent Road where Emergency Medical Services paramedics treated her and transported her to Middle Tennessee Medical Center, said Detective Lt. Egon Grissom of the narcotics unit.

Loftis told deputies she suffered the burns ?at a house where they were cooking dope,? Grissom said.

Sheriff?s officers learned the methamphetamine was being produced at the Blackman Road home with a paraplegic inside and tried to get the occupants to answer the door. They refused. Because of safety reasons, the district attorney?s office agreed the officers should enter the home.

The paraplegic man was taken to MTMC for an evaluation.

Officers were awaiting a warrant to search the Blackman Road home.

Loftis is being charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, the lieutenant said.

?We?re still in the investigative stage,? Grissom said.
