(MURFREESBORO) This coming Saturday (7/13/2019) volunteers are encouraged to come together and help retired U.S. Army Sergeant Bryan Camacho with landscaping for his specially adapted custom home.

In December, 2007, he was serving as an infantryman in Iraq, when his vehicle ran over an explosive device. He was thrown from the unit, slammed to the ground and broke his back. Camacho was paralyzed from his waist down.

He returned back to the U.S. and underwent a year and a half of vigorous therapy at military hospitals in New Jersey and Virginia. His determination enabled him to lead a completely independent life using a manual wheelchair.

The sergeant was hurt again in November, 2014 when his specially adapted truck hit an icy spot on the road, spun and slid into a ditch. That crash broke his neck and left him a quadriplegic.

Camacho had been living in Clarksville, but traveled to Murfreesboro to watch a friend produce a video documentary. The retired sergeant, who loves history, fell in love with Murfreesboro and its friendly residents. He decided that the Heart of Tennessee was for him.

On Veterans Day, 2017, Middle Tennessee State University held a golf scramble to raise funds to construct Camcho a specially adapted custom home. Funds from that event were given to an organization known as Homes For Out Troops (HFOT). They have been evaluated as one of the top-rated veterans and military charities. This group's mission is "To build and donate specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post-9/11 Veterans, to enable them to rebuild their lives."

The rest is history, and this coming Saturday (7/13/2019) volunteers are needed to do landscaping on the property. Registration is at 9:30AM Saturday morning and a short safety class will be taught at 10:00AM.
