(MURFREESBORO) Murfreesboro residents who use the water and sewer department's on-line payment service were shocked Saturday (8/3/2019) morning. As they logged-in they were met with an unfamiliar message (see above).

The message said, "Hacked by Iranian Hackers. We are always close to you, your identity is known to us, your information is for us; take care!"

The site was taken down quickly and I.T. (information technology) specialists repaired it.

City spokesperson Mike Browning noted, "While there was no customer information accessed, the City of Murfeesboro is assessing an apparent compromise of a link to an online portal of the Water Resources Customer webpage. Again, no customer information was accessed."

An investigation is underway to determine who the hacker or hackers are.
