The head of Ruitherford County's Republican Party has decided to pull his name from the ballot of those seeking one of the three Murfreesboro City Council seats. Austin Maxwell cites his family, employer, political and military obligations as the reason behind his decision to withdraw.

He is a major in the Tennessee Army National Guard, and received the Purple Heart in 2006 while serving in Afghanistan. He is a sales rep with a pharmaceutical firm.

The City of Murfreesboro election will be April 17th. Early voting March 28th through April 12th.
