(MURFREESBORO) As we head to the new decade of 2020, it's time to take down the holly and missletoe, plus recycle your cut Christmas tree. With that mindset, now is the perfect time to commit to making more sustainable choices and recycling in the New Year.
Middle Point Landfill General Manager Jeremy Jernigan told NewsRadio WGNS, "Start by by recycling your Christmas trees and wreaths. Recycling trees not only keeps them from going to the landfill, it also provides mulch for local and state parks."
Get rid of the tree after Christmas or when it is dry. Dried-out trees are a fire danger and should not be left in the home or garage, or placed outside against the home.
Murfreesboro and the surrounding communities offer tree recycling where used trees are mulched and/or donated to wildlife conservation organizations and parks. Just remember to remove the stand and decorations and do not put your tree in a plastic bag.
