(CBS News) Our CBS News affiliation informs us that the 8th case of corona virus has been confirmed in the United States.
A University of Massachusetts-Boston student was confirmed Saturday to be the eighth case of corona virus in the United States, one day after U.S. officials declared a public health emergency. The student just returned from Wuhan, China, described as the epicenter to this outbreak.
On Sunday, the first death outside of China was reported in the Philippines.
As of Saturday, there were 11,791 confirmed corona virus cases in China.
On Friday, U.S. health officials issued a federal quarantine order for the 195 Americans evacuated from Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak.
The 8 corona virus cases in the United States are in: California has 3, there are 2 in Illinois, and 1 each in Washington state, Arizona and now Massachusetts.
As of Saturday, the flu-like virus had killed at least 259 people, all but 1 in China. That death was in the Philippines. CBS reports there are now confirmed corona virus cases across Europe, Asia, Middle East and North America. Each affected country has small numbers, 10 or less, but it is widespread.
