Grass Fire this past Saturday

Feb 24, 2020 at 09:16 am by Bryan Barrett

A small grass fire was quickly doused this past Saturday. The blaze got the attention of passing motorist around 4:00 in the afternoon.

The fire was in the large field between Camino Real and Walmart along 231 South.

Always remember not to throw cigarette butts out your car window. A Tennessee Division of Forestry study from 2012 shows that in one year, 39 fires caused by cigarettes burned over 200 acres in the Volunteer state.

SIDE NOTE:

As we slowly inch towards Spring, it is important to remember from October 15th through May 15th, anyone starting an open-air fire in Tennessee within 500 feet of a forest, grassland, or woodland must secure a burning permit from the Division of Forestry.
