Apr 12, 2020 at 02:05 pm by Bryan Barrett

Thunderstorms with heavy rain drenched Rutherford County Sunday. Several roads were closed due to flooding.

It was reported by @RuthSevereWx on Twitter a home on Zephyr Court off Round Rock Drive was struck by lightning around 11:20am. An off duty police officer who lived nearby drove to the home to find the roof and attic on fire. It was quickly contained as Rutherford County Fire & Rescue, Christiana Fire Department, the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office and Rutherford County EMS responded.

Several short in duration power interruptions were caused by the storms as they rolled through.

In nearby Chattanooga, nearly two dozen people in two Tennessee counties were hospitalized and about 150 structures were damaged by an apparent tornado. Places like East Ridge, East Brainerd, Collegedale, Ooltewah and Cleveland all reported damage.
