Help School Children with READING This Summer with the United Way

United Way has teamed up with the Murfreesboro CHOW Bus and BOB the Book Bus to help kids with summer reading.

The WGNS audience can help K thru 6th graders with literacy in mid-June as part of the United Way "Literacy Day of Action." Janet Kincherlow-Martin with the United Way told WGNS...



Drop the books and other learning items off at in the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce parking lot on June 16th from 12 noon to 4pm.

Here's how you can get involved:

Purchase items from our Amazon Wishlist to be shipped directly to United Way by June 16.

• Donate your "gently used" books or purchase items from other retailers and deliver them to a collection site (TBA) or to the United Way office: 3050 Medical Center Pkwy, 2nd Floor, Murfreesboro, TN.

Dual language books
Flash cards
Workbooks of any kind/subject
Coloring books
Crayons
Sidewalk chalk
Index cards
Glue sticks
Paint/paint brushes

Items can be dropped off at the Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, June 16, from noon to 4 p.m. A drive-through drop-off location will be set up in the parking lot. (3050 Medical Center Pkwy, Murfreesboro, TN).

Items will then be provided to partner agencies on June 18. Because of social distancing recommendations, the need for volunteers on Literacy Day of Action is still to be determined.
