(MURFREESBORO) Have you been watching the construction of the massive West Point business subdivision that's being developed on the New Salem Highway and I-24, exit #80? That's where Costco, Barrett's Armory, several retailers, motel, and more will be located.

Costco is building on a 186-acre plot of land and its structure will have approximately 148-thousand square feet. Construction costs are expected to be in the $20-million range. Costco indicates 200 jobs will be created, and the retailer will generate approximately $165-million in annual sales.

In fact, the Rutherford County Industrial Development Board gave Costco tax incentives to get the retailer to locate here. The discounter will utilize 186-acres of land.

Officials pointed out that even with reducing payments to 32 per cent of its real property taxes, estimates show that Costco would pay $467,091 over the five-year period. That gives the world's second largest retailer, a $992,569 incentive to be in Murfreesboro.

Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland explained that land excavation is underway, however . . .

Reports indicate that Costco will produce over 200 jobs and is projected to generate $165-million in annual sales.

More Business and Bridge Too

In addition to Costco, Mayor McFarland raved about businesses that are already in the area, plus others that are coming . . .

That bridge is forecast to cost about $35-million. City Councilman Eddie Smotherman has more information about the bridge that would bring traffic into the West Point business subdivision from the other side of the interstate . . .

Fun Attractions

The Barrett's Outpost Armory will be located in a large structure that fronts I-24 (see photo of the green colored structure). While on-site, someone noted that "It would be fun to shoot the Barrett rifle". At that point, we were shown three extremely long culvert type tubes, longer than the entire structure. Diversity of Businesses

Cintas Corporation, the nation's leader in providing specialized business services, will be another business in the West Point business subdivision. They offer such things as businesses uniforms, supplies and safety materials. Cintas will have a regional operations center in the development.

West Point business subdivision fronts I-24 and would be seen by almost 90,000 motorists daily.

Murfreesboro Attracts WORLD'S Second Largest Retailer

It's interesting how public relations firms put a "spin" on things. Earlier releases tout that Murfreesboro has attracted the second largest retailer in the world!

What they didn't note was that our city already had the number one (Walmart), three (Kroger), four (Walgreens), and seven (Amazon) top retailers in the world. WGNS thought that you should know "the rest of that story".
