Mitchell Mote Said, "It's not too late to start a garden".

(MURFREESBORO) Agriculture Extension Agent Mitchell Mote said that it's not too late to plant a garden this season.

Tomatoes are by far the most popular garden crop, and Mote noted to watch out for "early blight".

Mote explained, "It a fungal disease that occurs on tomatoes and if your plant is infected it can display collar rust on the stems, and then infect leaves, while cracking the tomato at the stem. Infection on leaves is the most common symptom.

He noted that the various farmers markets around Rutherford County were excellent places to purchase locally grown plants. Plus, Mote commented that talking to the farmers is a great first-hand source of learning how to grow plants from someone who does it for their living.
