A man convicted by a jury in Rutherford County for first degree premeditated murder has asked the courts for a fresh new look at his case.

Rudolph Munn, 43 was convicted for killing his college roommate in 1999. After the conviction, Munn addressed the courts saying that a lawful expectation of privacy was violated when police secretly videotaped his communications with his parents. The Tennessee Supreme Court agreed. Upon remand in 2002, Munn received a sentence of life without parole.

Sixteen years later in 2018, Munn argued that one of his trial counsels was "slightly biased" based on his ties with the university he attended. The courts dismissed the issue saying that the statute of limitations had passed. The subject contended that he did not find out about the situation until November of 2017. Just last month, the Court of Criminal Appeals agreed thus allowing his case to move forward again.
