Barrel racing, bronc roping and clowns performing will highlight the seventh annual Lone Star World Championship Rodeo Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3 at Tennessee Miller Coliseum.
The new act, Coppertown Clown, will perform at the rodeo sponsored by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office’s School Resource Officers Division, said SRO Sgt. Bill West.
“More and more families are making this an annual event,” West said, adding the proceeds go to allowing special needs students to attend a special rodeo show Friday morning and funding SRO programs throughout the year. “It’s just good family entertainment.”
More than 7,500 people attended last year’s rodeo at the coliseum on Thompson Lane near Siegel High School.
Advance tickets now on sale are $8 for children 12 and under and $10 for adults. Tickets may be purchased from any SRO or at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Information Center in the main lobby. Tickets at the door are $10 for children 12 and under and $15 for adults. Seating is general admission.
Gates open at 6 p.m. both nights with preshow events such as the best dressed cowboy and cowgirl costume contest. The rodeo begins at 7:30 p.m.
Rodeo sponsors are Beaman Dodge Chrysler Jeep, Law Enforcement Publications and Lanes Trains Automobiles.
About 800 special needs children from Rutherford County and Murfreesboro City schools will watch a preview of the rodeo and participate in different activities such as pony rides. Volunteers from the schools and the school system’s central office will help.
