Without any public hearings or reports by 3 of the 7 committees, the March 15th meeting of the Rutherford County Commission moved along at a brisk pace, beginning with a commission recognition of March as “American Red Cross Month”.  The group also took a moment to praise the great work of the Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport Authority, named by the state as the 2011 Airport of the Year.  The Budget, Finance, and Investment Committee applied for Clean Tennessee Energy grants for funding to put towards more green energy countywide, authorized funding for additional office space and supplies for the Sheriff's Department, applied for STOP grants to prevent domestic violence, and implemented a mandatory direct deposit policy for all county employees.  Finally, Property Management approved an agreement to sublease part of the Old Lascassas school site to the Lascassas Volunteer Fire Department, and Steering, Legislative, and Governmental approved their new social media policy, bringing county government into the digital age, and soon, onto your friends list.
