Deputies located a missing Kentucky man Saturday walking miles from where he disappeared Sunday, said Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold.

Ethan Wolf Bendl, 20, of Louisville, came to Rutherford County last Saturday to visit friends off Burks Hollow Road but disappeared Sunday, leaving his personal belongings behind. He suffers from medical problems.

Bendl’s family notified the sheriff’s office he was missing two days later so deputies and K-9s immediately tracked him for 13 miles until losing his track. Detective Randy Groce continued the investigation.

Sgt. Trent Givens said a citizen reported Bendl walking Saturday morning on Bradyville Pike near Cripple Creek Road and notified the sheriff’s office. Deputy Derrick McCullough found Bendl and called for paramedics to treat him.

The sheriff said Bendl was located several miles from where he was last seen and decided to come out of the woods.

“Our deputies did a good job of helping him out and getting him water to drink until the ambulance arrived,” Arnold said.

Bendl told deputies he was trying to contact his parents but because they didn’t answer their phones, he believed they were deceased.

Givens said Bendl was happy when Deputy Michael Moody told him his parents were alive.

Arnold said paramedics took Bendl to Middle Tennessee Medical Center for an evaluation.

“I’m glad he was found safe,” Arnold said.
