Murfreesboro Resident named Tennessee National Guard Director of Joint Staff

Maj. Gen. Max Haston, Adjutant General for Tennessee, has named Col. Terry A. Ethridge, of Murfreesboro,Director of the Joint Staff for the Tennessee Army and Air National Guard.

Col. Ethridge has served as the Chief of the Joint Staff since May 2010.  Prior to that assignment, Col. Ethridge served as the Chief of Staff-Army, and the Deputy Chief of Staff-Aviation/ State Aviation Officer.

As the Director of the Joint Staff, he is responsible for readiness and effectiveness in training, administration, and logistics for both State and Federal missions. He directs, supervises and coordinates the Joint Force Headquarters Staff of the Tennessee National Guard.

Col. Ethridge is a 1978 graduate of the Middle Tennessee State University ROTC program. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Airborne School, Field Artillery Officer Basic, Air Assault, Officer Rotary Wing Aviator Course, UH-60 Transition Course, UH-1H and UH-60 Instructor Pilot courses. 

Ethridge is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College and completed the U.S. Army War College in 2006 with a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies.  He deployed to Afghanistan as Commander of Regional Corps Advisory Group I in March 2009. While in Afghanistan he earned the Combat Action Badge.

He is married to the former Karen Wood and they have two children, Jordan and Grace.
