The Rutherford County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will present its Jabberwock Pageant on Saturday March 31, 2012 at 6:30pm at the Patterson Community Center. Jabberwock 2012: A Return of Southern Grace will showcase nine young ladies as they vie for the titles of Miss Jabberwock and Jr. Miss Jabberwock.
Jabberwock offers family-centric fun and entertainment, and provides an opportunity to support the positive efforts and accomplishments of the youth in our community. The program will consist of a cotillion-style event.
Since 1925, Jabberwock pageants have been presented nationally by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to raise scholarship and operating funds. This Jabberwock Pageant is a culmination of a series of events – a kick off reception at Patterson Park Community Center, a community service activity at NHC Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, a bowling activity at Murfreesboro Strike and Spare, a laser tag activity, Beauty Day and Photo Shoot at the Georgia Career Institute, and Charm School held at First Baptist Church.
The Rutherford County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has a strong and consistent history of supporting the community through our commitment to service. The Chapter annually awards the Dorothy L. Stevens Scholarship to high school females of African American descent; are active participants with Habitat for Humanity, March of Dimes, Juvenile Diabetes, and the Salvation Army; sponsor several voters registration drives throughout the year; annually presents a community health fair; and sponsors the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy mentoring initiative for girls age 11-14.
The Jabberwock Pageant serves as a connector of families and communities uniting in the celebration of good citizenship and the positive character of all the contestants.
