Rutherford County Schools’ will have to increase their budget by $14-million dollars to make ends meet in the next fiscal year. The budget, that was proposed on Thursday, rings in at $285-million. Last year the budget passed at $267-million.

One of the reasons for the upswing in the budget is to cover the costs of 30-new teachers. Additional staff will also be hired in the next fiscal year to meet increased state mandates.

Before the budget can be approved, it will first have to pass the muster of Rutherford County Commissioners.
