If you live in the Arrington Community near Triune, then you may have heard strange noises on Thursday morning beginning at 3. Arrington Vineyards hired helicopter pilots to fly two helicopters over the vineyards in a figure eight pattern. The practice of flying over crops is common in Florida, but not so common here. The purpose of the flight is to warm the crops to keep them from freezing when the temperature dips down to 32-degrees or lower, like it did on Thursday morning. The practice is called “crop warming.” The helicopters ended their flight at 7 in the morning and from the looks of things, the flight work and no grape vines, which are now budding, froze.
