Murfreesboro Fire Places First

Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department took first place in the National Honor Guard Competition at the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 20. The team participated in details such as a Full Dress Inspection, Posting of the Colors, Casket Watch (posting guard at a casket), and Flag-Folding. Team members were Captains Jeff Irvin, Gary Hutchinson and Mike Adams, Captain/Shift Inspectors Thomas McAdoo, Nora Smith, and Wade Williams, Driver Randy Shaw, and Firefighters Greg Burt and Charles Powell. MFRD competed against eight other departments from states ranging from Florida to Ohio. They received a trophy for the honor as well as the title “National Honor Guard Champions.”

Chief Cumbey Gaines said, “We are so proud of our men and women who competed in this event. What an honor to be number one in the nation!”

MFRD’s Honor Guard presents colors at several events throughout the year including conferences, Veterans Day and 9/11 Remembrance Ceremonies, etc.
