Conservative estimates show there are 3,143 job openings available right now in Rutherford County. The Chamber of Commerce has created a Workforce Development division to help fill these jobs. The division's new Vice President Sandy Ponder told WGNS News . . .

She described someone who would be suitable for the field of mecatronics as a person who loves computer technology and has the ability to tinker with electronics and make devices work better. The classes are taught during both daytime and evening hours, so that participants can continue working. 

Ponder also noted that statistics indicate that 67,500 workers will be needed here to fill positions of those who will retire, and the local chamber is putting training programs in place to prepare area youth to be trained to fill these positions.
